OB-GYN is out of office... maybe u girls can help...

I am definitely getting a head cold and since this is my first pregnancy, I'm a nervous nellie... should I be worried?  I'm pretty strong, as it pertains to colds.... I usually just push through it without taking anything.  I'm wondering if this is dangerous for my LO inside my belly.  Any thoughts would be appreciated. xo

  • Baby is safe if you have a cold. The baby will be safe if you choose to take medication for it that is on your safe list as well.

  • Until your fever hits 100.4 you're good. Take some tylenol to control it and then do the other "i have a cold" things: tea, lots of hand washing, etc.

When your fever creeps up, go to the doctor.

  • Unfortunately becuase of our lowered immune system - pregnant women get colds all the time.  It may be more uncomfortable now than before but if you can push through it with no meds - the better.  Don't worry - little one will be fine.  But call the doctor again if you get a fever.

  • Just be sure to drink LOTS of fluids.  Keep an eye out on your temp.  If it goes up to 100, call the doc.  Otherwise, be sure your hubby does whatever you ask him to do.  That definitely helps heal head colds!
  • I agree with everyone whos posted, drink loads of fluids including hot honey and lemon for the throat and OJ for the vit c boost, take tylanol when it all gets too horrid...remember anything from the tylanol family is safe for LO nad have lots of rest, even if you don't normally take time off for a cold, i recommend that you stay at home and keep your feet up.

    Get better soon xxx

  • I just went through this last week. I had a sinus infection (finally feeling better today) and could not function because of the pressure. My doctor prescribed a Z-Pack and it worked wonders. It was approved by my doctor, midwife, and pharmacist for use during pregnancy without any effect on the baby.
