First full day of school and neighbor kid is already "sick"

He's now out riding his bike. DD and I were just outside and he came out with his bike. I asked why he wasn't in school and he said that he had a stomache this morning and his mom said he could stay home.

I just chuckled because this would not fly with my mom. We had to prove we were sick and were housebond when we were. If we got better too early, she would send us to school.

That wouldn't fly at my house either.  If we were sick, my mom was calling the doctor.

He probably had that typical first day of school upset/butterflies in the stomach feeling - he could have gone to school.    But I agree, sick equals housebound.

dude, I'd remember there were times I'd wake up in the morning, puke, and my mom would tell me "good, you got it out of your system" and ship me off. She didn't play dat.

Dude, that's just not right. Riding bikes???

I didn't have to prove I was sick, but not only was I housebound I had to be either in bed or on the couch, no running around. And NO TV! Laying around with nothing to do is a strong incentive to go to school.
