Any HEM/ONC nurses out there? (XP from BOTB)

I thought i would share a quote from school today with you guys, it made my day.

The guy was going over what all they see in the PICU and he started talking about the hem/onc patients they get and asked if that was anyone's passion, if anyone was going into hematology/oncology. Out of a class of 90 people, I was the only one that raised my hand.

he proceeded to clap and say "God Bless you, truly. I will give a standing ovation to any nurse that dedicates his or her life to those patients. It takes a truly compassionate and strong spirit to see that day in and day out. Thank you for choosing that as your passion, i know damn well I could never do it"

and it made me smile, so I thought i would share it with any of you who chose this challenging field for your own. I know it can get rough sometimes, but we really do make a difference.

  • I work as a nurse is peds Heme/Onc/BMT. Thanks for posting this. It can be a difficult field, but also very rewarding. The families are so grateful, the children are like beautiful little miracles- so much strength and passion. And every day I am reminded of how lucky I am for everything I have been blessed with. I don't think I would have the appreciation for my own life had I not worked in this field.

  • I work in a private Hem/Onc office and I absolutely love it...wouldn't do anything else. I feel like I have found my fit and hopefully will stay here for awhile...I have been doing Oncology for 7 years now and I really do like it!
