?s RE: Dr. Newman's ointment, shield, and Soothies

I guess I'm going to be an out of control poster this afternoon! I feel like such a basket case!!

Today I got some Dr. Newman's ointment and I'm wondering if I should use my nipple shield while I wait for my nipples to feel better. LC thinks it could be thrush although the LO has nothing indicating that in his mouth. So, should I use the nipple shields for a bit? LO has no trouble transitioning from shield, breast, or bottle, thank goodness. Also, I have Soothies. Should I use Soothies with the Dr. Newman's or is that a no no? I'm so confused, but I'm trying very hard to stay on this BFing boat even if I end up pumping my arse off! Thanks for sharing.

  • I don't know your issues, but when I had out of control sore nipples, I used a shield while they healed.  Like you, my LO can transfer back and forth without a problem.

I never tried Soothies so I can't help you there.

GL!  Stick with it, it gets better!

  • You can definitely use the ointment with the soothies. Better yet, but the soothies in the freezer first for some nice relief.

New research shows that wounds heal better when they don't dry out, so if you keep 'em lubed up with newmans' and then cover them in soothies you should heal pretty quickly. Dry=chapped and cracked=owch!
