Help! I CANNOT decide about DD & baby's bed situation :(

Ladies, I need some input. Here's the situation:

We've decided to have both kiddos share a room b/c it works best w/ the layout of our place (4 bdrooms, but 2 are upstairs and 2 are downstairs). DD's crib was recalled so I'm getting a voucher for a new one (convertible so we don't have to keep getting new beds). So, the big question is, do I get that crib for the baby and get DD a toddler bed OR do I get her the crib and then get a 2nd one for the baby? Fortunately, cost isn't an issue b/c the voucher is pretty generous and I'll be asking my parents for a new crib for my b-day/holidays.Or I could just ask them to get Taylor a toddler bed right now.

The toddler beds are really cute but the only one that converts to a full size bed is not the best quality. But I feel like it might look weird with two different cribs in the room (maybe even stranger if they matched). I have to use BRU for the voucher, so that's where I'm looking at everything. I do like a few of the convertible cribs so I have options.  What do you think?

  • I would get a twin bed w/ an extra guardrail on the side and a new convertible crib for DD #2. The twin bed will last DD #1 well into the pre-teen years and you will need a new crib for #2 anyway. Get them both in matching finishes since they will be going in the same room.

  • I think it will depend on whether or not your DD is ready for a toddler bed? If you think she is, this would probably be a good time to do it. Maybe ask your parents if they would be willing to do this since you would have the voucher for the crib?

But if she's not ready to be in a "big bed" then I say get her a convertible crib and let your parents go ahead and get you the other crib at the holidays if they agree to. My DS1 had a convertible crib and we changed him at 2 (so he could be the "big boy" when DS2 came 6 wks later) but he slept in the converted bed until a lot longer later. Let us know what you decide!

  • I have an almost three year old who will get new furniture while we convert his full size bed back to a crib for this baby. I wouldn't get a toddler bed. I would purchase a twin or full bed for your older child and get a new crib with the voucher.
  • Thanks VERY much for the input, ladies. I can't believe how stuck I've been on this decision- I think pregnancy brain is taking over, lol. Yes, DD is totally ready for a big girl bed- she's 2 1/2 and pretty pumped for a "new bed"- I even had to bust out the PNP last night b/c she insisted on having her "new bed"! My bad for mentioning it early. I'll definitely look into the twin w/ a guardrail as well- that might be a good solution since we'll want something that will last, and we have white furniture in there, which has been pretty easy to match.

  • I would NOT move her LOL.  I havent moved Madison yet and to be honest..the LAST thing you want with a crying newborn is a toddler running a muck cause they can help themselves out of bed.  If DC is not crawling out then just leave them...Get convertibles for both so you dont have to buy another and be done with it... jmo.
