Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

DD's 15 month appt is today.

I'm a little nervous.  DD isn't really talking.  The closest she is to a word is "muh muh muh" for milk.  She does say mamama but I don't think she says it to me specifically.  She used to say dadada but I haven't heard that in a while.  She makes other sounds too but not words.  I know there is a huge range of "normal" at this stage but I can't help but be a little concerned.

I'm anxious to see what the pedi thinks.  I'm also excited to see how tall she is, she seems to be growing like a weed.

Wish me luck.

  • DD at 15 months didn't say too much.  Just within the last few weeks (she is now 17 months) she is really starting to repeat a lot of words and small phrases that I say.  She won't say them by herself, except for oh-oh mama, dada, ball and dogie.

Thanks for sharing.  This makes me feel better.  :)

  • Your pedi probably won't be concerned. I had asked our pedi at his 12 month appt., and he said he wouldn't be concerned unless ds didn't have 6-8 words by 18 months. He was happy last week at ds's 15 month appt. that he was doing other things to express himself, like point to things he wanted, and could follow commands, show receptive language. You'll be fine. Can't wait to hear her stats!
  • I understand where you're coming from.  You just cant help but worry if everything is going as it should.

Let us know the stats! Good luck.

  • Good luck!

I'm a little afraid for K's 15 month appt, because her pedi seems to be kind of demanding re: talking, although she's very relazed with the physical stuff.  K had about 6 consistent words at her 12 month appt which I thought was great, but the pedi was kind of like "meh."  Now she only says 3 words consistently (she lost all her words when she started walking and is just getting them back) and I'm afraid for what the pedi is going to say.

  • At our 15 month appt last week the pedi started saying, well, 3 words, we might want to consider early intervention for speech...wait!  I was thinking he was 18 months!  He looks so big!  Never mind!  3 words is fine right now.

I was a little freaked out there for a few seconds, but I know in my head that he's fine.  If he's still only saying 3 words at 18 months we'll see...
