2nd Trimester

For anyone who does yoga

I have a yoga DVD, and I really like it, but I'm thinking of signing up for a class. I think it might be more relaxing and effective when the dog and cat aren't coming up to my face as I try to exercise and unwind, haha. Any other thoughts on this? And does anyone know how different prenatal yoga class is from regular yoga?

  • They vary. Depends on how intense your current yoga classes are. The prenatal are usually much easier. But, you can still do a regular class, there are just certain poses you can't do. Let your instructor know up front and she can make modifications as you go along if you want something more intense than just prenatal. That's what I do!

  • The prenatal class i got to is really easy.  It might as well be called the 60 minute stretch with a 15 minute lay on the floor and relax class :P  But it helps with the aches and pains non the less.  If I had been into yoga before I'd probably stay with my regular routine with modifications.  Unfortunately I didn't think now was a time to start.
  • I do a pretty vigorous yoga class twice a week. I don't know what I would do without it! I swear the classes keep me sane. I have started to modify some positions, though. I do have a prenatal yoga video and find it too easy and a bit boring. But I imagine that I might enjoy that pace later in my third trimester...

  • I do regular yoga. You aren't supposed to do twists or inversions (should stands etc.) When they do things on their stomachs or backs, I usually do extended child pose, frog, or pigeon.  It is pretty easy to figure out what to modify. I think if I was to do prenatal it would be pretty boring.
  • i never did yoga before, but i started prenatal yoga last night. it was awesome! the people were really nice and it was very relaxing. plus you get to talk to other women who are going through the same thing you are.  it is a lot less intensive from what i hear because of a pregnant women's ability.  you should go to a class.
  • This post made me laugh because I just ordered a DVD so I can do yoga at home.  I've been going to a class, but it is waaaay too easy for me.  But now I have to deal with the dogs and cat licking me and laying on my mat.  :)  Good luck on finding a good class.  You could go to regular yoga; I just got tired of worrying that I was doing something bad, and I hate sitting out.

Does anyone know why it's so hard to put together a prenatal class that just focuses on poses pregnant women can do (and there are a lot of them!) without making it an hour-long lay-on-the-floor class?!?
