I think theyre a great idea and some are pretty adorable, but do I really need one? I can find some for cheap at consignment stores, but Id rather save that $10 if I really dont need one. What are your thoughts?
My sister-in-law loved hers-used it all the time. BUT i dont think one will work for us. It gets down to 2' in n. idah so i wont be putting LO in on. My sister-in-law used hers around her house-always kept her LO in it. So if you think you will be that kind of mom $10 might be worth it
I am looking into making one I have read that making your own moby wrap is really easy! I am excited I saw a mom using one with her 4 week old and it looked really comfortable. I would not pay more than $40.00 for one if I was going to buy it though...
I think it really depends on your perspective and/or parenting philosophy.... My question was - "Do I really need a stroller?" I opted for both - several baby carriers that serve different needs, and my mom bought us a stroller as a gift. I imagine I'll "wear" her most of the time, and use the stroller occasionally.
Carrying baby close to you has many really significant benefits, for both you and the baby (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babywearing). Our culture is so different than most other cultures in the way we keep babies at a distance from us (like in cribs, strollers, separate rooms, etc.)...Plus it just seems more convenient to me when you're out and about to "wear" your baby, rather than messing with a stroller.
So, to answer your question - no, I don't think you don't NEED at sling or carrier. I don't think you NEED a stroller, either. But pop over to the Attachment Parenting board, and you'll be hard pressed to find a mom who could do without a sling or some type carrier. Like I said, it's all about your parenting philosophy...
I had one with DD, but I used it maybe once. I think i used it while doing housework, but you could just as easily put LO in a swing in the room you are in or a bouncer. We have a portable swing a bouncer for DS this time.
I plan to use the carrier around the house, when Im folding clothes, doing dishes etc. That way he will be close but i still get my hands free. Also i imagine a carrier will be easier at the grocery store so i wont have to bring in the stroller or put the car seat in the cart...
You don't NEED one but I will not give mine up. It totally SUCKS to carry the carseat with the baby in it you if you're just making a quick stop somewhere. If you have one, you'll find tons of times to use it when you'll consider it indispensible and a very worthwhile purchase. If you don't, you'll grumble about how heavy the carseat is all the time but it's not too terrible. Just annoying.

I agree that it is a bit of a personality thing. ?DD LIVED in her baby bjorn. ?I found it easier to put her in that than in a stroller or carry around the car seat- when grocery shopping or other shopping. ?DD also came to work with me so she was in it there or when I was doing errands around the house. ?Keep in mind she never liked being in her stroller, screamed the whole time.
I am looking at making a Maya wrap for this baby because I will be so busy playing with DD and doing stuff around the house that I'd like to start her in the sling sooner than the bjorn allows.
