Success after IF

? for those TTC or planning to TTC for #2

How long will you/do you plan to TTC on your own before starting up IF treatment again?

I'm planning on asking my RE at a consult in a week if we should bother trying on our own.  I plan to get some diagnostics, a CD 3 u/s and some b/w to see how my PCOS is looking.

I keep being told about the no fertilty treatment the second time around success stories and wonder how common that really is.  Or if it's just like all times people told me about the couple who were on break or "relaxed" and got pg when we were originally going through IF.

Anywho, I just want to get a handle on what other IFers are planning to do.

I was formerly NuHomemaker for those that might remember me from the TTTC board.

  • We're not planning on trying on our own -- we're going straight to the RE. But we do have a plan: we'll use our frozen's first, then do a fresh IVF cycle, if it doesn't take. If the fresh cycle doesn't work and produces frosties we'll use those. If THAT doesn't work, then we're done. G might be an only kid and I'm OK with that. We'll then just go off all birth control and if it happens, fine.

That's the plan... for now anyway :)

  • Trying on our own will not help, MF IF so for us so it's IUI or nothing.

  • ITs the opposite for me.

  • We plan to try for another couple months, so I guess that would make it a full year from the time we got the go ahead from my OB after dd's birth.

Honestly I thought maybe it would happen soon after my PP AF, but given the fact that I haven't seen AF since I figure I am only delaying things.

    Good luck to you!

  • We are going directly to IVF w/ ICSI.  Trying on our own is pointless.  We have MFI issues in addition to my PCOS.  I think that we just decided to try and do our IVF cycle in Nov-Dec.
    Nothing to see here....
  • In January I plan to have my mirena removed and we will TTC on our own for six months.  If that doesn't work we still have on more fresh IVF cycle covered under our insurance.  After that if I am still not PG we will remain a one child family.  I will stay off BC though and hope!

It makes me a little sad to think that way but the odds are stacked against us.

  • we plan to be back in the RE's office within 4-6 months after Alexis is born. we have MFI & 2 blocked tubes so it's highly unlikely that we'd ever get pregnant on our own.

we will do an FET with our 5 remaining embryos & if that doesn't work we'll do a fresh IVF cycle at some point next spring/summer.

  • We will try for a couple of months on our own, but I don't want to waste too much time.  Then we'll head back to the RE to put together a plan.  But, I don't think we'll start for another year or so.  I say that now, but it might change.  I'm nervous to fall in the 2 under 2 group.  :)
  • We did not have MF but I had what my RE referred to as "pretty sucky ovaries".

DH was adament that we  try on our own for 6 months first, go back for one last IVF, then accept having only 1 child.

My RE was doubtful that we'd conceive again even with IVF.

I'd pushed DH pretty hard re: treatments the first time around so I agreed to the 6 months trying while rolling my eyes knowing full well it was futile.

    Wow was I wrong.

    GL to you.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
