Does Heparin hurt and bruise worse than Lovenox?

If you've switched, what has your experience been? I start Heparin next week, and I'm a little nervous.

Re: Does Heparin hurt and bruise worse than Lovenox?

  • I can't say from direct experience, but my Mom was on both last year and she complained equally about both as far as the pain goes.

I have to admit...I'm happy to see your post as you give me strength in making a decision to move forward with #2.  I need to be tested for LFV myself, turns out my Mom has it and we were blissfully unaware with #1.

Hang in there you only have a few more weeks and the little one at the end of the road is sooooo worth it!

  • I wasn't on Lovenox, but a different blood thinner and switched to heparin last week and hate it! It stings most of the times really bad and its also twice a day instead of just once. I'm just glad I won't be on it for too long and keep thinking of the end result when it hurts! :)

  • For me it hurt and bruised more with heparin than lovenox.

  • I agree with the PPs, I've had a little more bruising with the heparin than with Lovenox.  There's more actual fluid going in with each shot (in my case, anyway) so that may be why.  It's not a huge difference to me, though.
