if it's difficult to pronounce, perhaps it's not a good idea. could be confusing for a kid. although i think My-uh (I would spell it Mya or Maya) is very pretty.

My first instinct is My-uh. 

However, Maia is a goddess, the eldest of the Pleiades.   In this fashion it is prounounced May-uh.

I'm not sure.  I'd wait to hear her say her name.  I'd definitely say Maya as My-uh (like the Mayans) but I'm not sure how to spell it if you want it pronounced May-uh.  Maia could really go either way for me.
