allergies/congestion question

So I know its pretty typical when you are pregnant to have nasal congestion but how long has yours lasted for? Any suggestions/meds that help? DH thinks I need to go to the Dr. because I am "sick" but I keep telling him its pretty normal! Any insight is greatly appreciated = )

Re: allergies/congestion question

  • I've had nasal congestion on and off since like week 7. my nose has been stuffed basically this whole time. ALLERGY wise it has just started. I'm told NO NOSE SPRAY so I'm occasionally using saline spray just to clean out my nose. I'm very tempted to use a netti pot (or however you spell it) just to see if that helps clear me up.

But if you're concerned  call your doc. Maybe he/she can say it's okay to use a certain nose spray once or twice.

  • It is perfectly normal...at least for me. The membranes in your nose (as everywhere else!) are more sensitive, and tend to cause congestion (pregnancy rhinitis, I think it is called).  If it is really bad, ask your doctor if you can take a benedryl and use a humidifier. GL!

  • Unfortunately, I have had the congestion for as long as I remember...very early in the pregnancy.  It's particularly bad for me at night - I snore like a freight train.  My husband has to wear ear plugs.  I use the saline spray and that helps - but temporarily.  I get nose bleeds too....ah, the joys of pregnancy.  Although, I'd take this over morning sickness any day!

  • I had the worst congestion of my life around 4 months.  I had to stay home from work for a day or two and it takes a LOT for me to stay home from work.  I was miserable.  I don't think anything I did helped much, but some people recommend the netti-pot.  I think that's what it's called.  I get congestion occasionally still, and I can usually get rid of it by sitting up more in bed.  It's only a problem at night.
