I've been cleared to run (slowly and at a lower heartrate than normal of course) by my doctor, as well as to continue my regular exercise with some modifications. Unfortunately the options for fitness gear during pregnancy seem to be limited to sweatsuits and yoga pants.
Clothes - Could some of you runners recommend where to purchase or what brands to purchase of running clothing? I normally wear Moving Comfort, Brooks, Mizuno or Under Armour shorts and wicking tees. Any suggestions? I will be running in cooler temperatures (30 - 50 degrees) as it gets into November & December. Has anyone tried the maternity running skirts? Did you pull the band over or keep it under your belly.
Support belt - Also, my physician recommended that I wear a support belt while running, as I grow. There are lots of interesting looking contraptions available online. Can anyone tell me if you needed one while running? If so, when did you start using it? Brand, where you bought it, etc?
Thanks in advance for the help!
Re: Question for runners who ran while expecting
There's a great blog over at Runner's World (https://babysteps.runnersworld.com/). You'll have to go back to her posts from over a year ago, but she talked in depth about running while pregnant.
For me, I just snagged some of DH's running shorts (wore them under my belly) and used some of my old race t-shirts that were too big (I'm still rocking one of my Hood to Coast tees that is XL). I bought a couple of cheap jog bras from Target. Body Glide is your friend!
Unfortunately, I stopped running before my bump got too big and switched to just swimming (I've been using a non-mat bikini from Target).
I normally wear Nike Tempo shorts but found that the band was digging into my belly (even when I tried on bigger sizes). I have been wearing maternity capris from motherhood that they apparently dont make anymore :-( They are ok but I actually hate running in anything but shorts so its kind of frustrating. As for shirts I've been wearing old racing shirts that were too big before and mens undershirts. I've had good luck with sports bras at Title Nine (if you have one near you you can try a bunch on and if not they have an online store).
I haven't found any reason to need a support belt even though I have a decent belly so I have no recs there.
If you find good shorts be sure to let us know!
Thanks for the help ladies. I did a little poking around at the blogs that were suggested on Runners' World. Very helpful thanks! I also visited Title 9 sports in Seattle and found some new Moving Comfort bras.
Title 9 recommended that I look online at Born Fit - www.bornfit.com
They seem to have a TON of options for pregnant women that actually look comfortable, flattering and quite functional with wicking fabrics, flat seams and more.
Thanks again and I'll let you know how it goes!
