2nd Trimester

New with a few questions

Well Im 25 weeks, almost coming to my 3rd trimester!

But I still have questions and trying to figure out the myths from the facts are really hard to do as well.

First cocoa butter, does it really work? I hear some people say " Well if your mom has strech marks you will too"(my mom had two sets or twins and a boy that was 10pds so big difference in pregnancies, Im only have one boy.) and then others say " Well once you start using the cocoa  butter dont stop or then you will get strech marks."  Im just so confused , will it actually work? It helps my stomach from being so itchy so im happy with that.

Buying nursery items! OMG the biggest pull ever!  I hear from some to buy this dont buy this or then oh I promise to buy this. The items that ive been told not to buy is a changing table, dresser works just as well.(As long as i have padding on top.)  A glider, I found this old 70s rocking chair on garbage week, and then put cushions on it. Ive been told by some throw it out and buy a glider.  Really ?    My husband and I are on a tight nursery budget and im trying to go eco.  What items worked for you in your nursery? I would really like to know.

So what i want to know is does cocoa butter work and are all the myths true, and what did you find great to have in the nursery?

Thanks so much Im just so confused and some baby books I just want to laugh at some of the advice, or the advice I get from people that never even had been pregnant.

  • Cocoa butter and stretch marks... if your mom had them, you're more likely to have them because you'll have inherited similar skin conditions to hers.  The twin issue though... sorry, no help there. Smile  Cocoa butter (and other lotions) will moisturize your skin, which helps to improve elasticity, which can decrease the appearance of stretch marks.  If you're skin is more pliable, it will naturally be able to handle the stress of stretching better.

A rocking chair is just fine.  Many people prefer gliders for several reasons, but it's not going to make any difference in your ability to provide for your child and be a good mommy.  Stick with your rocker if that's all your budget allows for at this time.  You can always upgrade later, if you feel the need.

  • I must admit that I also love the feel of cocoa butter on my stomach but I cant say it prevents stretch marks. If you are bound to get them you will get them.

Nursery, I dont see any reason to throw out the glider. If someone tells you this ask if they are offering to buy you one cause you are fine with the glider you have.

  • Neither is true about the stretchmarks. Cocoa butter isn't a magic cure for them, or else nobody would have stretchmarks. And just because your mom got them doesn't mean you will. It's all in your own genetics, if you are meant to get them you will and no cream or lotion is going to stop that.

You will be fine with a rocker if you are on a tight budget. A glider can be more convenient/comfortable because you can get the ottoman which "glides" with you in the same motion. But it's not a must have over a rocker.

We got a dresser/changing table combo. So yes, a dresser with padding would work just fine.

  • Cocoa butter makes me feel better, but my mom didn't get stretch marks, so I probably won't anyway.

Nursery...my vote is to go with transitional items like a convertable crib that turns into a regular bed and a dresser that can be used in the future as part of the bedroom set.  I'm not buying a bedding set because it's a waste of money to me since I didn't want to use the bumper or the quilt.  Just bed skirt and fitted sheets for me.

     Good luck with everything!
