Poop help

My DD only had 1 1/2 (lol) bowel movements yesterday and so far today she's had none. ?She has enough wet diapers though. ?I always let her suck at both breast until she unlatches herself or falls asleep. ?Should I call pediatrician? ?Is there anything I can do to get her to poop?

  • BTW she'll be 3 weeks old tomorrow. ?Also, she hasn't been acting extra fussy or gassy.

  • BF babies can go up to a week without pooping.  So long as she's comfortable, peeing, and eating, it isn't a problem.

I've heard BF babies can do that. Certainly this is not the case with my LO. He poops 8-10 times/day. Also, he lets us know it pretty quickly with a lot of screaming. The dude hates to be dirty and then he hates getting his dipe changed. He can't win!!

  • I had read that around 6wks, babies start going longer between poops. At 3wks, my DD went 36 hours and I got nervous and called the pedi. They were not concerned at all. They said to call back if she went 3 days without pooping, but even then they wouldn't have been concerned, just would have given me ideas of ways to try to get her to go. She's consistently been an every other day pooper ever since.
  • My LO only goes once a week. Pedi doesn't seem too concerned. When he does go it's soft, and mustard colored and lots of it. I think you're fine.

  • I wouldn't worry if it has only been 1 day. Maybe after 3, I'd call the pedi.
