High-Risk Pregnancy

Anyone diagnosed with Toxemia?

Just got back from the dr and have high blood pressure, bloating in the face and some protein in my urine. I go back on Thurs to have my blood pressure tested. Anyone dealing with this?

No problem.  I bought a home BP monitor (only $25 or so) so I could monitor at home.  It calmed my nerves and also saved my ass one time when my BP shot up to 190/100!

  • I am on bed rest for signs of pre-e (toxemia, seems that older docs refer to it as toxemia) but do not actually have it, knock on wood.

I did have it in my last pregnancy and had an emergency c-section at 27 weeks. There are several ladies on here with pre-e so if you have any questions, you will get lots of good info.

I hope you BP levels out for your appointment Thursday and am glad to see that you are far along so in the event you do have pre-e, you could go ahead and have your baby. Best of luck to you and take it easy!

  • Ditto pp - the more common term now is preeclampsia.  I had HELLP Syndrome in my last pregnancy, which is a severe form of preeclampsia.

Lots of ladies here have or have had pre-e, so I'm sure if you have any questions there will be responses given!  It sounds like your dr. is keeping a good eye on you, which is great.  Also, you're at a great point in your pregnancy, so fingers crossed everything works out wonderfully, even if you get stuck with a pre-e diagnosis :)

    Good luck!

  • Yep - I have it :(  I am on bedrest and have Dr. visits 3 times a week - 2 times for nst and bpps with the high risk and once a week with my regular ob.  I also have to do a 24 hour urine collection once a week and blood work once a week as well.  I have to monitor my weight and blood pressure at home.

  • I was diagnosed with superimposed pre-e at noon. I began my induction (resulted in an emer c/s) 2 hours later. My BP peaked at 150/110 and my 24 hr urine showed a level of 300.

  • I am my third pregnancy and third round of dealing with Pre-e.  Hopefully you were given things to watch out for but just in case....If you develop a severe headache that does not improve with tylenol or if you experience any visual disturbances you need to call your doctor ASAP.  Pre-e can develop very quickly!  I would take my BP at home if I were you and if you see it increase (anything over 140/90 is pre-e level) I would also call.  Good Luck and keep us posted!
