Motherhood Maternity - Did you want my SSN too?

Anyone else get a little frusterated with just how many questions Motherhood Mat. asks at checkout?  Phone number, address (if it doesn't come up with the phone number), e-mail add. and due date and then they tried to get me to sign up for a CC that links a 529 plan.

Geesh, can't I just come in and buy my dress and be on my way with a "Have a nice day and thanks for the business!"

Re: Motherhood Maternity - Did you want my SSN too?

  • I just say a firm "no thank you" and stare if they continue to pester me.
  • I've never had to give them a due date or had the option of a CC: Weird!

  • so funny you posted this!!! this just happend to me yesterday. I purchased a dress for my baby shower this weekend. My husband was  at another store getting his hair cut so he wasnt there to play interferrence.  As i was trying on dresses the lady was handing me papers over the door, advertising this and that, and even kept bothering me to try on dresses i didnt want to try on!!!!  When i paid she first asked for my phone number, I told her I didnt want to give it, then started asking for my address!!! i've never been asked for my address before! I told her no to that too. She started insisting I give it, that I couldnt return the dress if they didnt have my address!! stupid. I told her i'll take my chances. No way i was giving up my address to her. so unnecessary.
  • I completely boycotted Motherhood Maternity this time around. With my older daughter, I went in to buy a couple shirts. Checkout girl asked for my phone number. I said 'I don't give that out'. Then she asked for my address. I said 'I don't give that out either'. Then she was really confused... like she did not know how to ring me up without this information. She said 'are you in the system? Could you give me your name so I can make sure you're in the system'? I said 'Thanks, but I don't want to be in the system'. She did not know what to do next.

Then I said 'you know what? I'm buying this for a friend. Can you just ring it up that way?'. Then she said 'Oh good! What's her name, hopefully she's in the system'.

I put the shirts back and never stepped foot in that store again.

  • I never liked how they did a transaction.  Like all the info, they pushed for Parents magazine (which then is not free, almost imposs to cancel), and their stupid return policy.

I mean their stuff is NOT cheap, isn't that enough!?!!

  • Wait. You mean you DON'T sign up for your kids college plans when you go dress shopping? Weirdo;)

  • Seriously...and that's why it takes sooooooooo long to check out! They should really focus on reducing the size of their checkout lines instead.

  • I try to avoid that place if all possible. I had to go in there last week bc their basic scoop neck Ts where on sale and my belly grew. After saying "no thanks" 20 times to everything, the sales associate learned that I was moving to the area and proceeded to tell me about her apt complex and basically held my change hostigate until she was done talking for 10 minutes!!! DH's head was going to explode.

  • After I got married, I changed my name on everything except my license. I barely ever drive, as I live in a city where I can take the train all time.

Well in the last 2 + years, motherhood maternity was the only store that gave me problems about my license not matching my credit cards. I even offered to show the woman all my other credit cards as well as my health insurance card that have my married name on them. The manger came over and says, "technically this is not you". We went back and forth, and just when I was ready to put my one stupid pair of pants down, she said we'll do it just this once. Seriously, someone who steals credit cards would not be buying one pair of maternity pants at that store! After that they lost my business.

  • I have bought a few things there, but that store really ticks me off and I honestly don't see how they do the business they do.  Their return policy alone makes me not want to shop there.  I just don't see how they can get away with it.  And their salespeople are pushy and annoying.  When I do go in there I just act very standoffish and they usually leave me alone.  I'm sure they think I'm rude, but whatever...then I don't have to put up with their nonsense.  That said, I have only bought a few shirts there with this pregnancy.  Their pants don't ever fit me anyway.

  • Isn't it awful when there's a national chain that you only feel comfortable using CASH in because they're so sketchy?  Luckily, I only had to shop there once.

  • Seriously, they got me as far as my phone number, then when she asked for my address I told her I didnt want to sign up or anything. She tried to persuade me with her "coupons" and I told her I didnt need any. She looked at me and then almost threatened me with her return policy (if I didnt have a receipt & wasnt in the system, blah blah blah). What I really wanted to tell her was "I have $300 sunglasses & $600 diaper bag, I dont need your coupons or return ploicy"...
