Recommend your Large diaper bag for traveling

We have a small diaper bag we use on a daily basis, but we're about to fly home for vacation. With layover in the airport included, it will be an all day trip. I wanted to bring enough bottles/formula for the day in addition to a change of clothes, diapers, blanket, and toys for the plane.

Can you recommend a large diaper bag that will hold all of this but still be allowed as carry-on for the plane?

  • We have the Eddie Bauer Weekender. I actually use it all of the time. It is pretty big, you should be able to fit everything you listed in there, but it might be a tight fit. You can get it at BRU, so you can go look at it. I think the bag is around $40.

  • I've had good luck w/ my Petunia Bottom boxy backpack while traveling. ?I use it every day as well, but I think you could pack all of those things in it (will be tight though). ?The nice thing about using it while traveling is that you can throw it on your back like a backpack when you're trekking around the airport.

P.S. MH and I are thinking of moving to Richmond! ?Have you found it to be a nice place to live w/ a baby??? ?I lived there before as a single gal but didn't pay much attention to family-related things ;)

Well we've never lived anywhere else since having DS, so I'm not sure what to compare it to. I like all the outdoor malls as a nice place to take DS for walks.  There are a LOT of city parks and walking trails here too, which is nice. Our daycare is wonderful but costs $900 / month which I think is very pricy. There are all the usual things too like Babies R US and a few baby-stuff consignment stores. Hope that helps.

  • A big Vera Bradley one.
  • We have a big Eddie Bauer diaper bag for traveling as well. I don't know what the name of it is, but we got it at Target.

I've used it for several plane trips and it works really well. Things need to be packed well so they're in the right place to be easily reached, but it fits everything we needed and I could put it under the seat in front of us so I could get to it without getting up.

I have the qvc knockoff of this set.  They aren't selling it anymore, I guess b/c they started carrying Vera Bradley.   I had asked for it for a gift to use as my hospital bag for when I gave birth.  I dug it out again when we were traveling b/c it is a good sized bag.  On the inside it has three small pockets that fit my bottles and one larger one on the opposite side where I put my changing pad.  I organized the things that I needed in ziplock bags and they fit nicely in there.  I also put everything I would need to change my DD's diaper in one ziplock so all I had to do was grab that when I headed to the bathroom to change her.  I must have packed everything I could have ever needed with me in there and still had room: toys, bibs, bottles, extra clothes, blanket, burp clothes, safety kit, changing kit, etc.  I was also pleasantly surprised that it fit underneat the seat so that I didn't have to put it in the overhead.  It had handles and a strap which is nice too, plus you get an ID case and cosmetic case.

    Hope this helps!

  • we have a large backpack that we now use instead of a diaper bag.  Its perfect...has three seperate compartments, two mesh pockets on the sides for sippys and bottles.   I love it!!  I will never go back to a regular diaper bag.
  • I second using a backpack as a diaper bag. We started using one for a trip this summer and never went back to the regular diaper bag. The backpack is much more convenient.  HTH.
