Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Did anyone who is TTC right now have a difficult baby?

Just curious.  I am wondering if there is some correlation between how difficult the first baby was and how long people wait to TTC.  We had an incredibly difficult DS (for the first 4.5 mo.) and I can't even IMAGINE having another one in 9 months.  But I can see where someone who had a pretty "easy" newborn may be excited about having another one not too long after the first.

So, if you are currently TTC, was your first baby (or your most recent, if you have more than one) easy, difficult or middle-of-the-road?

  • holy cow...we think alike!  see post above

  • Ds was an easy newborn
  • We are waiting a few years b/c DS was more of a difficult child.
  • I think this a great question!  I had a very difficult newborn and am definitely not TTC now!

  • We had a moderately difficult newborn, and he is still not always sleeping throught the night.  I *think* I will be ready to TTC in a few months.

Carson Henry, born 39w, 2d, via emergency c/s due to no fetal movement and fetal distress.  Seizures, IVH grade 2, brain injury, kidney and liver damage.  Complete blood clot in the artery in his right arm.  27 days in the NICU.  Now discharged from all specialists, excepts his kidney doctor, who will monitor him indefinitely.  My tough little cookie.

  • I think DS was relatively easy, we didn't have to deal with any major issues.  At about 10 weeks he STTN (atleast in the sense that he didn't need to be fed) never had to do Ferber or anything, no colic or reflux....and we are just now officially TTC, so I guess it's true for us.
  • Our LO is pretty easy (busy, so exhausting in that respect, but happy & easy) and we are talking about starting again soon.   But, we are older and don't have a lot of time to dawdle either!
  • We have had a very difficult baby.  I love him like crazy but he has had allergies/colic.  Then teething was no fun and he has a temper that is crazy.  However we have been TTC since he was 3 months.  It definitely crossed our minds not to have another during the first few months but we always wanted two.  It took us 2 1/2 years to conceive DS so we figured it might not happened right away so that is why we started so early.  I got my BFN today for cycle 6 so unfortunately we were right.  Also I figure it would be a cruel joke to have 2 difficult babies, there must be some justice in the world.

HA! I would love to believe this, too.  But somehow I fear the worst.  Also, I figure even if #2 is as difficult as #1, it will be too late to change our minds by the time we know that, right? ;) GL to you!

LOL!  DH always says this too but I am not sure I am that trusting in the unknown!

  • DS was difficult and I still consider him a "high needs" baby. He was colicky, didn't sleep and nap well for months, is super impatient and needs a challenge and stimulation constantly. These have their advantages and disadvantages. Obviously, his cuteness and our love for him outweighs all these things, but I'm terrified to have another newborn. I wish my next baby could be born at 6 months! We will wait until DS is 2 to get pregnant again. I'm hoping he eventually grown out of his ornery-ness! ; ) Good luck!
  • DD was very difficult as a baby and is still "high needs" who needs a lot of attention and stimulation.  I almost think she'd be a perfect second child because she is so entertained by other kids.  So I'm hoping if we have two close in age they are able to play together.  I'm also thinking I need to have #2 right away before I change my mind :)

  • I have a super easy baby and am not even considering it! Yet.
  • hmmm, my dd was a very easy baby. She was wonderful. I would LOVE to have another, but we are waiting for other reasons. It we were a bit more situated financially i would love to TTC sooner. At the same time though, i really wanna spend as much time with dd as possible...she is only a baby once. It is already going by too soon!

  • The first two months were heII.
  • I'm not TTC now, but I have 2, so I will tell you my frame of mind when we started TTC DS2...... DS1 was sooooo easy.  He was sleeping 8 hours a night by 2-3 months, and by 5 months was sleeping 12 hours and it was smooth sailing in the sleep department from there on out.  So when he turned 1, I had major baby cravings, so I got pg when he was 13 months old.......now THIS little peanut?????  He just started sleeping through the night, and he still doesn't do 12 hours, he does from 7-5:30, nurses, and then is up again at about 6:30-7:30.  From age 4 months to about 9 months, he was up 4,5,sometimes 6 times per night and it was pure hell being that tired, for that long, and having to care for a toddler as well.  So although I want a third, there is NO WAY that will be happening anytime soon b/c I'm finally getting caught up on sleep, and I need at least one, preferably both to be out of diapers when that happens!
