I need homemade party decor help

I promised DH I wouldn't spend any money on Gabe's Birthday party/David's Dedication party we are holding next weekend, but I really wanted to do a Noah's Ark theme. 

I am trying to come up with ideas for homemade decorations.  I want to involve Gabe and do craft projects with him next week.  So I was thinking about making a rainbow, animals, rain drops, an ark - out of contstruction paper somehow. 

Anyone have any other clever ideas?  What about for cake decor - I am doing a homemade cake.

    Can you have him fingerpaint the rainbows and raindrops? The ark you can make out of construction paper - just print a template online.

    If you want to do a game or something, you could make your own matching game since the animals are supposed to be in pairs. You could print it on card stock and cut it out.
