I need cake help!

I know a lot of you have made the Wilton's giant cupcake cake, I've tried making 2 cakes but they don't rise properly, and the cake itself is really thick. Is this how yours come out? If not, what recipe/brand of box cake are you using? I must be doing something wrong.

    What brand are you using?  Make sure they didn't expire!  I've bought a few box mixes before that expired and didn't rise properly.

    They were brand new from the store, I didn't check the expiration because they were so new. I was wondering if adding some baking powder would help?

    Was it a mix where you added eggs in?  If so, make sure you mix it the full 2 minutes or whatever - it feels like forever, but it helps get air whipped into it to pump it up.  GL with your next try ...
