Mattress pad/protectors/sheets question

What the heck do I REALLY need?

I am getting ready to use my BRU completion coupon and I'm kind of overwhelmed.  If I get this "ultimate crib sheet" thing do I also need a mattress pad and sheet savers?  Not sure here.  I don't want to go buy a bunch of things I don't need.  Help :)  Please and thank you!

Re: Mattress pad/protectors/sheets question

  • From what I've seen on here, a mattress pad is unnecessary and the Ultimate Crib Sheet is a sheet saver. I'd get two of those so if one needs to be washed you've got a backup.

  • basically you need something waterproof to protect mattress, a sheet, and if you have a spitter an easy way to change/protect said sheet.

You can piece together what works for you  =)  I didn't have spitters, so I just used waterproof pad plus sheet, no sheet saver or anything.

That is a cheaper option that the 'ultimate crib sheet', plus you can send regular sheets to daycare if that's a consideration.

  • I can't believe you are due tomorrow!  YAY!

I got a plastic cover to protect the mattress.  It zips around the mattress.  I then got a mattress pad for the middle of the mattress in case.  Then I put the sheet over it.  I only change the sheet and leave the other two layers unless they get dirty.

  • I use a flannel waterproof pad (they're cheap - like 2 for $15?) under crib a sheet.  This covers the whole top of the mattress and is good now that we've had a few pee diaper leaks at night. I also have a soft mattress pad (like what's on our bed) but its probably not necessary.

When DS was tiny (less than 3 months), he would spit up alot so I would put a small flannel lap pad ontop of the sheet and lay his head on that. Technically, its a "loose" item in the crib, but it kind of sticks or is static-y to the bed sheet so I wasn't really worried about SIDS with DS sleeping on his back.
