my lo's umbilical cord fell off and now there is all this green puss - looks like snot.  i put a call into the doctor but have not herd back yet - is this normal?

That happened to my LO.  It was all gooey in this belly button.  The doc said it was fine, but not to give him a real bath until it was gone.

This.  What you're seeing isn't pus, it's leftover cord remnant.  My DS had the same thing.  Sometimes when a cord stump dries it forms a kind of seal and doesn't allow any air to get to the bottom of the cord stump.  It will dry out like the rest of the cord stump did.  As PP said, continue sponge baths until it's all gone.

DD's did this and our pedi said to put alcohol on it a couple times a day. ?We did it and it cleared up in a couple of days.
