Potty training::long car ride and Pull-Ups

We are going to the beach this weekend and have a four hour road trip ahead of us.  DD has been potty training for about two weeks now and is doing awesome.  She is in panties all day and Pull-Ups for nap and bed.  She has had a couple of accidents at daycare but nothing out of the ordinary.

I was thinking about putting her in Pull-Ups for the trip but I don't want her to regress.  We ahve the potty already in the car and do plan on stopping a couple of times to see if she has to go.  Just thought that it would be easier to have a Pull-Up just in case.

Any thoughts?  TIA!

  • We went thru this too. Leave her in panties and let her impress you :) people suggested putting absorbant things in her carseat, but I forgot and all was well.

  • When DS was 1st PTing, I put a towel under him and up thru his legs in the carseat.  If you want to do the Pull Ups, I'd say put a Pull Up on OVER her underwear so that she still has the same feeling of underwear on.

Ditto.  That's what we did when DS was first PT'd.  We got a "piddle pad" for the carseat.  We still use it b/c sometimes he spills a drink on the seat & it's easier to wash the pad than the carseat cover.

  • DD is going through this right now too.  My inlaws are taking her camping an hour and a half away....and she hasn't been in pull ups at all for the last 4 days except for at night (not even at naps).  I don't want her to regress either, so I've been doing what previous poster mentioned and put a towel down in her carseat, have her go to the bathroom right before we are going to leave, and pack extra clothes/underwear just incase she has an accident.  I would rather her work on bladder control than just putting her in a pull up to make it easier for me.  Good luck!
  • We're in the same situation.  We have a 4 hour car ride to the lake this Sunday.  I bought some Puppy Pads to put down in DD's car seat and several extra changes of clothes.

She's in panties at home but pull-ups at daycare because she's more distracted and isn't as good about going potty as she is when she's home.

  • I owe my carseat still being around to piddle pads lol
  • Mine has been out of diapers/pull ups during the day for a couple of months now, but I have put a pull up on her for long rides.  I've explained to her that they are just like panties & we don't pee in them- she gets treats when she stays dry for a longer trip & she seems to understand that. I only have them in case she falls asleep & pees, because if she's awake generally she doesn't have an accident.  She has never 'regressed' in them.
  • I put a waterproof lap pad in the carseat with a cloth diaper folded on top. It's always under her in the car, even for short trips.

And DD has used the potty on the side of the road several times... somehow she usually manages to wait until we're only 10 minutes away from our destination before needing to go, but once she says she has to go I know she means NOW. Fun times.
