TTC after 35

Thank you, update, consult...longish

Hi ladies! I wanted to thank you for my post yesterday. It brought tears to my eyes--in a good way. Your support and words of encouragement sooth my tender soul.

Unfortunately, yesterday was an incredibly sad day for me. I had to get the Methotrexate shot, it felt a little like going in for a lethal injection. I could have really used a drink last night, but need to stay away from alcohol for 2 weeks due to the shot...and the sun...we're going to Mexico in 2 weeks! Guess I'll bet sitting in the shade.

On a positive note, I was really happy with my Cornell consult. I met with Dr Davis, who is known for his work with high FSH/DOR. He has some thoughts about trying to improve my egg quality, and seeing if we can recruit more eggs to mature, as I have the follies, but they just don't respond. He suggested continuing with EPP, but doing a patch instead of the oral tabs. My protocol is called co-flair, similar to micro-flare, but tweaked with some different meds and dosing, as he feels some of the meds I'm on now linger longer in the body and can effect egg quality. He also suggests co-culture, which shows to be a benefit for crappy egg quality. This is where they do an endometrial biopsy the month before you cycle. The cells are frozen until retrieval day. Once my eggs are ICSI'd, they will be put on the thawed endometrial cells so they feel like they're in their natural environment. He didn't give me chances of success, it's possible, but difficult. There's only so much you can do to increase your odds, and when it comes to poor egg quality due to age, there's no miracle cure. Also, he won't cycle me for 3 months due to the Methotrexate. I can start the stims, as long as the retrival doesn't occur during this time frame. Most likely, I'll start December or early next year, seems so far away.

Thanks again, ladies. You really help me through the tough times :)?

  • QE,

Dr. Davis sounds great. He's not making any promises - but he's doing everything he knows how to do for you. What more can you ask for? He also seems to really, really know a lot about women in our situation.

Three months seems like a long time on this end of it, but it will go fast. And with all you've been through, maybe a break from everything will feel good.

    ((((hugs))))

    Joyful

  • I know it was a sad day but in many ways its a whole new beginning:) Meeting Dr D was the best thing that could have happened to me! Glad the shot is done, in the past...time to heal and look forward. We are there for you.

  • Oh QE2, I am so sorry about the shot.

I am happy you had a good consult with Dr. D. If anyone can get you your sticky baby, it is him. You are doing everything you can possibly do so you should feel good about that. I know the waiting sucks, but at least having a plan should make it go quicker.
