My pedi wants me to give DD vitamins with flouride in it. After doing some research I am not 100% comfortable with give her flouride.
Anyone opt out of this..if so what vitamins do you give your LO. I am still giving her Tri-vi-sol put should I switch to poly since she is on solids?
Re: What Vitamins do you give LO (re: Flouride)
Well my mother took a fit when I told her I was going to give DD flouride drops(shes a nurse) so I googled "Flouride danger in babies" and there is a bunch of articles on it.
Its very controversial right now so I am leary of it. I am stuck in catch 22 because there are pros and cons to it..I am thinking of maybe doing the Nursery Water (not all the time) to give her SOME flouride but not everyday.
formula to get extra vitamins?? instead of bm??
Too much Fluoride, like anything in large amounts, can be harmful. Before starting a supplement, you should take a sample of your water to the health department for testing. You may have enough in your home drinking water and do not need a supplement.
Also, when googling fluoride dangers, please consider your sources. Are they reputable sourcess?
I'm kind of a hippy, but we've opted out of all vitamins until 9 mos. I BF and there is research that vitamin supplements (especially iron) before 6 mos actually cause BF babies to not properly absorb all of the more natural form of vitamins in BM. After 6 mos., you can begin using fruits & veggies to expand LO's access to vitamins. We are avoiding flouride for now, too, but won't as DD gets older.
