High-Risk Pregnancy

GD question for second pregnancy

I had GD with my first pregancy and when I went for my prenatal visit the doc said they would be testing me earlier for it this time around.  I go for my 1st appointment on monday and plan to ask, but just wondering when everyone else was tested? (wondering how long I might have to follow diet if I get again) TIA

Re: GD question for second pregnancy

  • I was tested right away at like 9 weeks. However, I somehow didn't fail until they found sugar in my urine at like 32 weeks. Now after all that I failed a 2 hour last week and was diagnosed with pre-diabetes.

I suspected I had it my whole 2nd pregnancy but somehow managed to pass the tests in the begining and again later on.

  • I was around 16 weeks when I was tested for this pregnancy and failed miserably.
  • I didn't have GD with DS but wanted to share a statistic that was in my GD education class book.  It says that if you had GD with one pregnancy you have a 90% chance of getting it with subsequent pregnancies.  Because of that high percentage I would assume that they would be testing early on and repeat if often if you happen to pass.
  • At my office they test at 18, 24, 28,and 32 weeks assuming you pass the ones before. I failed at 18 weeks.
  • I was tested at 8 weeks...I was dignosed only after the one hour (160-something) It's been a long pregnancy but a healthier one then my first.

    Good Luck!

  • I was screened at 26 weeks, in which I failed.  And tested thoroughly at 27 weeks, in which I've also failed.  Now I'm 28 waiting for counseling/advice, or something.
  • I had it with DS too.  I took the 1 hour test at 6 weeks and passed.  Then again at 27 weeks and failed, then failed the 3 hour at 29 weeks.  Now I'm waiting to see the dietian (sp?)
