Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

DD is so gross sometimes.

She just soaked her mum-mum in the dog's water bowl and then she ate it. The water is for a bulldog mind you, so it's REALLY half saliva since he drools so much in it, it's almost gooey. Ick.

How the heck do I keep her from doing this? I've tried taking the water away, but my poor dog is thirsty. :)

Re: DD is so gross sometimes.

  • i seriously just gagged a bit.  drool is my kryptonite.  ack.

*backing out of this post carefully*

    ETA:dog drool.  not baby drool

  • I am of no assistance on this matter.  I had to scoop two pieces of doggie kibble out of DD's mouth the other day...and she cried.
  • I have stopped allowing DD in the kitchen for this reason.

I would love to do this, but we have an "open concept" house, so the kitchen and living room are all kinda open together. Boooo. :(

  • Our cat is fed in my mothers room for this exact reason. DD likes to eat the cat food like it's Puffs.

  • DD likes to play with my dogs water, and since he can be territorial about his food, I decided to move his his food and water bowl to the kitchen so that it's more out of the way, since we don't spend much time in the kitchen during the day.  She still tries to play with it sometimes but I've given her mini-time outs (holding her hands and looking her in the eyes for 10-20 seconds and saying 'we don't play with toby's food/water')  That's seemed to help a lot.  For us it's a safety issue so that's why she gets timeouts, if it were just an ickiness issue I'd try to redirect her.

    Same. I would need a 20' gate...
  • I moved the cat food and water to a location less traveled by DD.

  • Hmmm...I don't know if this would help you, because our problem was a bit different than yours.  My DD would constantly stick her hand in the water dish and water would go everywhere.

We left the dog dishes out but empty and she'd pick them up...we'd say no, and have her put them back down, etc.  Our dogs got used to eating/drinking at certain times.  She eventually lost interest so now they're down all the time and full.  She doesn't try to eat the dog food anymore, but she does pick it up and feed the dogs.  It's pretty cute  :)

Ours too, everytime she went near it for 2 weeks I would say no and move her all the way to the other side of the living room, finally she got it and doesnt try to go in the kitchen unless I am in there a long time and she is looking for me.
