This is probably my biggest challenge rigth now- my twins are 11 days old & feedings can take forever b/c they'll drink like half an ounce but as soon as I take them off to burp, they either fall asleep & require a ton of stimulation (taking off diaper, lying in PNP without swaddle, lots of touching etc) or they squeeze their lips shut even after having a good burp & it can take another 10 min to get the bottle back in there. I don't force it in but they need to eat (they had some weight loss issues early on) and esp at night when MH & I are on our own for shifts, feeding seems neverending.
I suspect this is the norm at this age but would love any tips...thanks!
Re: Need tips for bottle feeding when babies fall asleep mid feed
I BF but DD was very hard to wake those first few weeks and she also had weight gain issues. We would tickle her feet and run a damp washcloth or baby wipe over her arms/stomach/back as she ate. I would also rub her shoulder or her ear.
Sometimes a diaper change would wake her back up enough to continue.
Good luck! DH and I used to get so excited when we'd see a glimpse of DD's eyes because she was always sleeping. Now we can't get her to go to sleep!
