Diaper changing is a nightmare

I am finding it almost impossible to change DS's diaper these days ESPECIALLY poop diapers.  I am physically not strong enough to keep him from flipping and he's constantly trying to touch and grab the disgusting mess.  The only way I can halfway manage is by strapping him down on his changing table, but then it's hard to lift his legs to get him clean and even strapped down he can flip if he REALLY wants to.  Plus strapping him down makes him irate and upset leaves him hysterically hiccup-crying for about half an hour after the diaper change is over.  I try to hand him toys to hold/distract him, but all he wants to do is rub them in his poop!  Ughghghgh!!!  Any thoughts/ideas/similar situations??

  • Forget giving him toys. Give him stuff he's never allowed to play with unless he's on the changing table. K likes my cell phone (but now he's grounded from it since he broke it). He also, oddly, loves playing with the tube of diaper cream.

  • When DD was in that stage I would shove a toy under her shirt and it would keep her busy long enough to clean up most of the mess and or get her diaper on.

  • ummm... honestly, for poop diapers especially, I've resorted to turning the TV on to the Wiggles or Big Music show. Then I change her while she's watching and turn it off after. Not the best solution, but it works! ;)

  • For some reason, the lotion tube works well to distract our DS.  He is a flipper, too, though, and sooo strong.  Some days are better than others.  Don't know what else to say!
  • I am with you, DS is out of control...the girls aren't much better either.

  • I hear ya on this one.  Sometimes is I distract DD by singing to her or having her sing to me helps with the diaper changing.  It is a nightmare though and I dread it!
