final molars @16m?

Did anyone have a child that got their final molars at 16 months? DD already has 16 teeth, so we thought we had some time. But she's been biting/chewing on everything lately. She's gone back to biting into our couch which she hasn't done since she got her I-teeth. She also had a low-grade fever (100-102) for about 48hrs, some diarrhea, and hasn't been napping well. All of the things, save the fever, happened with her other teeth. But I didn't think these could come this early? Anyone else with an early teether?

Re: final molars @16m?

  • yes.  we also have begun the two-year molar process.  no signs of cutting anytime soon, but lots of drool, low-grade fever, and the whines.  I took him into the pedi to check for an ear infection, but the verdict was teething.

ETA: we also have 16 teeth, so the only ones left are the last molars.

Mommy to Seth (4) and Catherine Anne (13 mo.) Excited to welcome a third child in March of 2013!

  • I have wondered the same thing!!!!  I swore I saw something poking through behind one of his other molars (he has all 16 teeth too).  But then I wrote it off as maybe the molars he has are moving down more.  Then he wouldn't let me look in there to really see.  But the past few days he's been biting on things more and actually bit me in the should which he did when he was getting his other molars.  He napped like crap today too.  So to answer your question, I am not sure if they can but I am beginning to think so. I read somewhere that if they have eye teeth it could possibly happen.  Good luck!

  • My 16 months old also has 16 teeth, I would not be surprised if he got his molars soon too. He had 8 teeth by 8 months and 16 at 16 months.

Ethan's molars did not come in until 2.5 y.o. i think... but he only had 4 or 6 teeth at 1 y.o.
