Klaire's 9 month & other issues - Tongue tied

Did anybody have a child who had to have their tongue clipped?  I think that his the name of the procedure.  We had her 9 month well check today.  So, we have to have that fixed and also the VCUG and ultrasound.  She had another cath today.  Poor girl.

She has fallen off the chart weight wise.  She weighs 14lb 12oz.  So, she is little.

On a good note, Kyle had his 3 year well check and he is the highest he has ever been on the chart - 6%!  Woot!  All 27lbs of my 3 year old.

Gotta love my small kids!

  • Matthew had it done at 6 weeks old. It was a local under his tongue and a few seconds with the scalpel while I held him.

I don't know if it's that simple for an older baby.

  • sean is tongue tied.  ped. wanted to let it stretch on it's own (which it has-he'll be 3 in december) but i think some letter sounds he can't make and may eventually still have it clipped for speech.  i know kids who didn't get it done until they were 5.  one of my brothers was tongue tied and they clipped it before he left the hospital when he was born.  so my parents were sad that they didn't do sean's then.  i think younger is better than older, i was never able to find a reason not to clip it when they are young.  not looking forward to sean's need for it still.

  • My DD is also tongue tied and she is 2.5 will be three in December we are letting hers stretch and going from there, they are saying that they dont think it causing any problems with her eating ( she is also very small and barely on the charts she goes from either 1st to 0 %) and her speech right now is okay.
  • DD did. ?She was 2 when we had it done. ?At the time we thought it was mild, I didn't have anything to compare nursing to (she's my first).. we had her evaluated when we were having concerns about her speech. ?ENT said it was actually pretty bad & was surprised she could speak as well as she did and was shocked that she was ever able to nurse at all. ?So we had it done.

Went in for outpatient surgery, they gave her versed to relax her & make her a bit hazy, and used gas to knock her out. ?Couple cuts, couple stitches, and some tylenol. ?Took about 20min plus recovery room time - they tend to freak out a bit when coming out of it but are ok after 30min or so. ?Only restriction was no acidic foods - tomatoes, pickles, etc for a week or two. ?As you can see from my sig pic, she's fine now LOL ?Her speech improved quickly. ?

Insurance sometimes only covers if it's impairing their ability to eat so you might want to check that out w/your ins. company first.
