Hi! I learned at my big u/s today that I have complete placenta previa. I don't see my OB for another week so we haven't talked about this yet and what he recommends. I have had spotting from the beginning so I'm not shocked to learn this, though.
If you have/had this, a couple questions:
1. What type of restrictions/rest did your DR put you on (if any)?
2. Did yours resolve itself with time (and when)?
Thanks--Stacy
Re: XP: Complete placenta previa ladies, come in!
Hi!
I also have a complete PP . I was put on pelvic rest right away, meaning no sex, lifting or working out. I was put on modified bed rest @ 24 weeks due to spotting and have not worked since then. I really freaked myself out by reading WAY too much online.
I had an U/S that showed it is still complete so tomorow i will schedual my c-section for my 37/38 week. My understanding is marginal and parcial previas resolve themselves 90% of the time. Completes rarely due. For now i am at home laying on my left side doing alot of reading and watching TV.
GL!!!
I responded to your other thread. I had a complete previa at the 18 week u/s. It's now partial. Next u/s in ~2 weeks.
My midwives didn't put me on pelvic rest until last week, when I had a fairly scary bleed and a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions. I spent some quality time at the hospital.
Definitely talk to your doctor about what's appropriate - not all complete previas are the same and some definitely seem to require more careful management than others.
ETA: The info you can find online about this condition is really alarming. Do not, repeat, DO NOT read the wikipedia page. It's a summary of treatment options for "how to save someone's life without modern medicine." Most previas resolve, and even those that don't mostly come through fine by taking reasonable precautions and having c-sections.
we never figured out what type of previa i had (which was part of the problem - the u/s showed different results each time), but it caused all sorts of a ruckus. i was put on pelvic rest at the 20w u/s (which includes orgasms as it turns out, that was the cause for bleed #1). i had 2 very small bleeding incidents and was put on bedrest temporarily both times. after my 3rd incident (period-like) i was put on hospital bedrest. the next day i had a substantial bleed and started contracting. we delivered DS at 32w6d.
my situation was weird and rare. most resolve themselves, but even if they don't, the worst thing that happens is a c-section. just listen to what your Dr says and take it as easy as you can!! good luck!
Hi,
I was diagnosed with partial placenta previa at 20 weeks. At 30 weeks I went in for another ultrasound and it became complete placenta previa. I go in for another ultrasound at 37 weeks to see if it has moved. I was only put on pelvic rest. Still no bleeding/spotting.
I found out a couple weeks ago that my ultrasound done at 19 weeks showed a complete previa. Just had an appointment yesterday where I was told there are two types of complete previas. 1 where the placenta is totally centered over the cervix. the 2nd where the placenta covers the cervix completely but is more to one side than the other. Of course my ultrasound report only says complete previa. I don't know if your ultrasound reports specify or not but the 2nd one has a better chance of moving than the 1st. I will be 23 weeks on friday and have another u/s then. So we are hoping it moved! I have been on pelvic rest since finding out and work has no light duty for me so I pretty much chill at home. I did come across in my research that the more you rest the better chances of it moving. So good luck to you ladies!
I had a marginal placenta previa that didn't move and caused me to have two minor bleeds each resulting in one night in the hospital. My first bleed was at 32 weeks and I ended up delivering 19 days later. In between, those dates I had a second bleed.
The closer you get to delivery the more likely you are to bleed because contractions and dialating are what cause the cervix to open the placenta to bleed.
I was on bedrest at home from my first bleed until I delivered. It wasn't fun but totally worth it for my sake even though my little girl wasn't going to survive regardless.
