Question...esp. for those who live in KS/MO

Hello, long time no see. We have been busy moving back home after a great summer in Maine.

Ok, so here is my question. My DH is having a big birthday next week and I want to make it a fun day full of surprises. I tried to get a tour at Allen fieldhouse (KU, basketball facility) but, they are under construction, so no can do.

What other types of things should/could I do to make it a fun day? Any ideas or suggestions?

  • Go to the Nelson Atkins Museum.  The Block building is the new contemporary addition they built and the art in there is beautiful (the building is too-it's won some great awards).

Go to the Negro Leagues Baseball Musuem downtown.

Or you could go out in Power and Light (the new movie theater there is amazing you buy reserved seat tickets and have a waitress for dinner and drinks!)

Or you could go to the Truman Museum in Independence.

  • Thank you so much! We were just at the Nelson (love, love, love this place), but the other stuff we haven't really done.
  • P.S.- I was hoping you would reply...CONGRATS!!! I am so happy for you!
  • Thanks!  It was a total surprise.

    What else could you do?

It's kind of girlie but you could go on a carriage ride through the plaza!

I think it's hot air balloon season, you could try to do that.

The corn maze could be up off of K-10 (the exit right before Lawrence I think).

  • Ok, that sounds great! I am checking into some of these while we speak. lol

P.S. I am writting you a PM, check it in a few minutes...

  • dirty lurker butting in - I know the Fieldhouse is off limits right now but you might be able to get a tour or Memorial Stadium (if you haven't seen all of those renovations yet)  If you're up for a drive to Topeka, try a tour of the State Capitol.  If you aren't nervous about heights, you can take the dome tour there - 296 steps to the top.  It's a great view!

  • You could do the Boulevard Brewery tour.  We did that once, and it was kind of fun--with lots of free sampling at the end!

Tour is free, but reservations are required.

I didn't even think of Memorial Stadium! Both of these are great ideas. Thanks!

OMG!  That would be so fun (not so much for me, but DH would love it and have a Designated Driver, maybe I should do this for him and he can bring a friend!)

This is a great idea! We did this last year, and my DH even told his sister that she should have her wedding here lol. They actually have a beautiful party space there...but she was not into it.

  • Whatever you decide to do - Have Fun!!
  • Boulevard is great!  What about going out to a Royals game?  The new stadium is amazing!
