Babies on the Brain

This is what I mean..

A few weeks ago I mentioned my feelings on women abusing the system.

Perfect example. A friend of mine, lives in her fathers LARGE house with her baby daddy and her daughter. She works PT and her baby daddy is a lazy unemployed dude that collects unemployment and plays video games all day.

She makes really good money when she actually works but doesn't work as many hours as she could/should. There is just no excuse for him. She applied for government assistance and is getting $300 for food. When I asked about how it works ( I had though you could only buy essentials like milk, cheese and cereal and juice) she informed me that you can buy anything, soda, chips etc.

THIS is what I call abusing the system. It enfuriates me. I wanted to just scream at her but I decided to just not say anything.

  • food stamps = you can buy pretty much any food item

wic = bread, milk, formula, etc.

Yup, I didn't realize it was two different things. But still, there are people that really need that money. Your just taking it and buying random crap.

  • that's ridiculous. I am all for govt assistance for people who NEED it but not for people who are just too lazy to work.
  • I have a cousin like this. As soon as she found out she was pregnant she posted on FB, going to apply for WIC now. Her husband works and makes decent money, enough for her to not work because she can't manage to hold a job for more than 2 months. She is perfectly capable of working but doesn't really want to, which is fine, but don't rely on WIC if you are making the decision not to work.

I completely agree.  We had a couple friend that had a child together, lived together as a married couple, but held off getting married until she was out of school and couldn't get gov benefits.   (And they told dh that.)

The guy makes nearly double what my dh makes and was fully supporting her and the kid.  She didn't work but one day a week and even then made like 1/3 of my check.  It angered me.

But the real kicker was that they couldn't afford to pay their bills but both smoke name brand cigs.  A pack a day.
