It sounds male to me...but my husband was born in Mesa, Arizona (its a big city just outside of Phoenix), so maybe it's because when I think of Mesa, I think of him.

I think I'd go with a girl...but I could see it working either way.
As it is, I'd never use it because it seems like one of those names that no one would know how to say or spell.

Ha! That's what I said to my mom! It is actually the name of my home town and means flat piece of land on a hill.
I think of Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. I'm not fond of it for a name.
