She wants a new carseat for DD, even though the one she has is fine until 80 lbs. She wants one that is skinny enough to fit 3 across. I found the sunshine kids one that starts with r, (radian or something) but she says it is too expensive. (She wants to be prepared to have my 2 nephews in the car as well at some point.) She may be called to take DD to pre-K sometimes this year.
Re: Help me find MIL a carseat.
Maybe try a Graco Nautilas but with the cup holders it may not work. It also depends on the car they will be in and what other car seats will be added in the mix as well.
Here is a good post on car-seat.org it has tons of post on 3 across car seats what cars how they were installed things like that.

The measurements for the Graco Nautilus are 29"H x 22"D x 20"W (with the headrest at the lowest setting). We recently purchased one for our son and it is definitely narrower than our previous seat, the Graco SafeSeat Step2 Toddler seat.

I have a radian, and it's probably the seat she's going to need. What kind of car does she have? It can be tricky to install FF on seats that have a really big dip in the back. It's easiest to use seatbelt and not latch IME
She has a caprice with no latch system and I think no dip. She is dead set against the radian. Only because I suggested it probably. She asks me things and then doesn't do them. Constantly.
Thank you girls for your help. This gave me a lot of good info. Even if MIL doesn't listen to me. She kept saying this was for DD when DD already has one. Then she said it was for when she has 3 kids in the car, which could possibly happen on Thursdays. I told her DH and I would handle Thursdays, do not worry, do not get an extra seat. She says she still wants one and that my other child willl outgrow his seat soon (not for another 2 yrs, so I don't know what her real deal is.)
