When you start in on doing IVF is it always preeceded by a month on BCP or doing Lupron shots? DH and I wanted to take a vacation in Sept. and if this IUI doesn't work we're going to be moving on to IVF. Just wondering as we're considering when in Sept. to take a vacation esp. since we don't want to take any time off from TTC too.

Re: IVF question
it depends on the protocol
most REs start with the long lupron protocol - about 21 days of BCP, about 12 days of Lupron, then the stims
you could take a vacation during the BCP / Lupron phase no problem
Married and it feels so good!
I am on the Flare Follistim protocol which started day 1 with Lupron and day 2 with Follistim. No BCPs or other meds the month preceding.
Of course, today the nurse told me that the doctor would have put me on the long protocol with BCPs, but I came in on day 1 and was eager to go then, so he put me on the next best protocol I could start on day 1, without 'losing' a whole month.
Before I started my IVF cycle I told my RE that I had a trip planned that was for 5 days. He said it wouldn't be a problem. I did not take BCP, only Lupron. I was on the Lupron while on my trip and got my period much earlier than anticipated. The RE's office freaked a little bit, but I went back to them as soon as I got home and luckily all my bloodwork came back fine so they proceeded with the cycle.
I'm thinking if you're on BCP for a few weeks then you probably could take a trip, but if only lupron then maybe/maybe not depending on how long it is. Good luck.
