Our infant car seat goes to 22 lbs and DS is 19 lbs. We'll be needing a new car seat in the next 2 months..... I was thinking about getting one of those convertible seats that go to 60 or 100 lbs b/c they're changing the laws here to require kids to stay in car seats until they're 8 years old.
Anyway, what did you buy??
Re: what carseat did you get when your LO outgrew the infant carrier?
The Roundabout only goes to 40lbs.
In general, I do not recommend any of the 40 lb limit seats. (Evenflo Titan, Graco Comfortsport, Britax Roundabout/Decathalon). They are way too short and will not last a child long to booster age (around age 5-6). My guess the new laws in your state, say that they must remain in a a harness until age 4 or 40 lbs, and a booster until age 8 or 80 lbs. That is pretty standard wording. Kids outgrow seats by height not weight. While you may not need a seat that goes to 65 lbs because your child is that heavy, you will need it because your child is that tall.
I also don't recommend any of the 3-in-1s (Eddie Bauer or Alpha Omega). They are not tall enough to last a child to booster age and they make super crappy boosters.
The seats I recommend are:
Britax Marathon, Boulevard or Roundabout 50
Evenflo Triumph Advance
First Years True Fit
Graco My Ride
Sunshine Kids Radian (any version is great)
The My Ride and Sunshine Kids are rated to 40 lbs RF. Honestly, the My Ride isn't going to get the average child to 40 lbs RF. It's shell is just not that tall. However, if you have a shorter, heavier child, it could be a great fit. The Radian will get the average child to 40 lbs RF. It is so tall. It will be the next seat I buy. Remember the new recommendation to RF to AT LEAST age 2. The longer you can RF the better.
Wow, is that a state law?
that's true! thanks for the correction!
I don't know specifically about Texas but many states are moving to laws that state children must be in a harnessed seat until age 4 or 40 lbs and in a booster until age 8 or 80 lbs.
Oh, wow. Good to know. Thanks for all the info.
