I just failed a 2 hour tolerance test. I had GD with both kids and was just diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I have no family history. I was put back on the GD diet but don't have to check sugars and just follow up with my PCP in 3 months.
Hi, Unfortunately, I did. I also had no family history whatsoever, was thin, only put on 20 lbs while pregnant, ate wlell, etc. Everyone kept telling me, "don't worry, it always goes away!" I just had a feeling though, especially when I had to go on insulin when I was pregnant.
At my 6 week postpartum test, I was told I was pre-diabetic as well. I was crushed...and in absolute shock. They told me to lose the baby weight(already had) and follow up with my PCP. Did that, he ran some labs, and referred me to an endo...she diagnosed me on the spot as aType 1 diabetic at the age of 32. My baby was 12 weeks old at the time. It has been an emotional and tough journey, but i am happy to say that I am pregnant again, and this baby is very healthy b/c my control is so good.
I live in Boston, and go to Joslin Diabetes Center. My Dr's think that during pregnancy, my immune system became so stressed that I acquired Type 1 Diabetes. A true shocker, so I can truly understand everything that you may be going through and experiencing...please feel free to use me and/or ask me any questions...Best wishes to you!!
Re: Anyone have GD that didn't go away?
My sister did, but our family has a strong history of diabetes and my sister has some "pre-qualifiers" that make her more likely to get it anyway.
I am hoping that I don't keep the diabetes as well. I don't know if I could keep up with this special diet for the rest of my life.
