Pregnant after a Loss

Need ideas on what to freeze...

What kinds of meals do you plan on freezing ahead of time (if any) to cut down on the stress of dinner time once your LO comes along?

Re: Need ideas on what to freeze...

  • Lasagna

Just about any baked pasta dish

    Mac n cheese

Chicken breasts prepped for different things (marinated, diced/sliced, etc.)

Soups or stews (most freeze pretty well)

    Homemade pasta sauce

  • allrecipes.com has some great casserole recipes.  Most casseroles can be frozen and reheated easily.

  • I froze lots of casseroles, spaghetti sauce, seafood pie, stuff like that.

  • All of the above (pp), and I also planned on picking up a few ready made meals from My Girlfriend's kitchen and freezing them.

  • You can make and freeze enchiladas so it gives you a break from all the pastas and casseroles.  I am actually looking forward to that.
  • King ranch chicken...mmmm good. I use tortilla chips instead of tortillas in the recipe, then after you've frozen it and reheated the tortilla chips inside are the consistency of actual tortillas and I add some chips to the top for a little crunch.

     I know a pp recommended allrecipes.com. I also like Recipezaar.com.

Also, depending on where you live you might want to check and see if there is a Super Suppers near you. They specialize in ready made meals to freeze. You can save a little bit of $ by going in on an open day and putting the stuff together yourself, or they should have some already prepared meals on hand. Sometimes, the one by me has a monthly clearance day where they clear everything out of their freezer right before they change their menu.

  • I've got spinach stuffed shells, poppyseed chicken, chicken broccoli casserole, and chicken enchilada casserole ready to go for us.  I'm hoping after that our meals from our sunday school class kick in.

If I lived somewhere cooler or was delivering later in the year, I would definitely freeze some yummy soup.  Beef stew, chicken tortilla soup, etc.

  • I plan on ordering things from the Schwanns man and then going to a Let's Dish place (where you make entrees suitable for freezing).
