Rave you Digital SLR camera here

I am able to work a new camera into our  budget in the couple of months.  I want a SLR but have no idea where to start.

SIL & BIL have nikons slr's but their photos aren't saying much for the camera.  (as in the photographer issues not the camera)

So which one do yo have.  Whats so great about it?  Right now I am eyeing up one of the Canon Rebels.

Re: Rave you Digital SLR camera here

  • We have the Canon Rebel XSi and we absolutely love it! It's really easy to use and it produces amazing pics.  My DH has really gotten into photography since we bought it and I'm constantly amazed at the photos he's taken.  It's great for me because it's easy to figure out!

  • I put this list together a while back, it has a list of other things you need to consider too, and some links to things I bought/recommend:

(warning - the initial investment is the cheap part - now all I think about it MORE LENSES !!!!  so check into what those will run, they don't come cheap!)

    My list:

  • i have a Nikon D90 with an extended zoom lense & we bought the 600 series flash. i luuurve it!

it's a little heavy (compared to the Canons) but i'm a Nikon girl :)

  • I had the canon rebel and loved it, but not I have the canon 50d and love it more :)

If you buy a camera, don't get the kit lens (imo) they are crap, spend a few hundred extra bucks and get a nicer lens.  If you have questions about them let me know

also my sister, mom and SIL all shoot with Nikons and they're nice, but canons are generall a little cheaper.

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • We have the Cannon XSi. Husband is the main photographer in the family and he LOVES this camera. I do have to say that even I can take good pictures with it which is a miracle in itself!!
  • I agree, don't get the lense that comes with it. Get the "nifty fifty" (50/1.8) and/or something like this I just picked up...

I have a similar lens to the one above, but I personally prefer a much wider lens.  28mm is not that wide, mine is f/2.8 but is 17-50mm. I love it.

  • I have the nikon d40...love it! It's in the shop right now for an issue with the built-in flash (unfortunately, it's common to this model). Our next camera, I'm hoping we'll get it next summer, is going to be the nikon d90 or one of the others around that range.

  • I have the Canon Rebel XT.  Love it!!!!!!!!  Just learning about the manual settings over the past few months, but it takes excellent photos on the automatic setting as well.
