Success after IF

Did weight loss work for you?

I need to lose a few pounds - ok about 40.  I'm starting my third round of IUI with clomid.  My RE has told me I should lose weight but isn't really pushing it.  I guess I'm just wondering if there is anyone who went through the procedures that didn't work and then once you lost weight you got pregnant (I hope this makes sense).  I'm having such a hard time getting motivated and I tell myself that overweight people get pregnant all the time.  But DH and I really have no other issues (his post-wash counts at the last two IUIs were 44 million and 66 million) and I O on my own.

Thanks for your input!

  • no but I think the weight argument is totally dependent upon the diagnosis of the patient and not a reason for IF.

Ditto.  My RE told me that losing some weight (about 15 lbs or so) would help my chances.  With all the stress and hormones, there was no way (even if I was motivated) that it was going to come off.  I have PCOS and weight loss has always been an issue.  I think taking care of yourself mentally and stress wise might be more beneficial than stressing yourself out over your weight.

  • I am very overweight but surprisingly, my doctor didn't mention anything about losing weight before we began our first round of fertility meds. Nonetheless, I started Weight Watchers about a month prior and lost about 10 lbs. Our first cycle of Clomid and Ovidrel ended up working but I have no idea if the small weight loss contributed to that or not.

  • I am more than 40lbs overweight, much more and I got pregnant on my 3rd IUI. I think it really is dependant on the indivdual. You will probably feel better losing it, I wish I had lost some beforehand.  My doc just said to eat healthy and not worry about it.

  • I will say I attribute my surpise BFP to my weight loss.  I tried for 2.5 years, see my siggie and had a failed IVF.  After my IVF failed, I focused on me and went back to working out 5 days a week and counting calories. I lost 23 pounds and got my surprise BFP.  I don't know for sure that was it, but I know it had to help get me to ovulate on my own......I didn't O on my own every month and it wasn't until I got my weight down that I started to....so for me, losing weight definitely helped.  PCOS is our only problem and my doc told me my case was mild.
