High-Risk Pregnancy

OB's are refusing to induce or conduct a C.

Just wanted to vent and let you girls know that with GD, everything is a mystery.

I have been having some problems with Max for weeks now, and have been told literally 4 different things about delivery. First, I was going to be induced at 39 weeks, then I was going to get a C, then they were letting me go another week, and now they will let me go until 41 1/2 weeks.

My numbers have been controlled by diet. I don't cheat often, if I do, it's something stupid like a baby cone at DQ. And... Max measured at 9lbs 4 oz last Thursday.

I've never been more frustrated in my life. I just envision delivering a 10 pound baby and having massive complications.

So... don't get your hopes up for things to happen normally... lol... because apparently, that's not the case all the time!!

Re: OB's are refusing to induce or conduct a C.

  • Ugh, I'm sorry. I had similar problems. I have GD and I've had high BP since 29 weeks. I was sent to L&D several times, my GD was so out of control my OB was debating admitting me to the hospital.... so I was all prepped to be induced early or have a c-section. At my 36 week appointment she looked at the latest ultrasound and said, "Yeah, I don't think it's going to happen vaginally"

Then, all of a sudden... everything cleared up. I went from the MAX dose of glyburide and still not having good control to being on barely any glyburide and I can eat more or less what I want. Emerson was measuring 7# at 34 weeks, but only 7.5# at 38 weeks. My BP dropped to a high normal.

The OB was still set to induce at 39 weeks, but that fell on a Saturday and she is off the next Monday.... so I'm getting induced at 40 weeks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm HAPPY that everything is going better for the baby. But it sucks to prepare and think you will be done any day now, and then all of a sudden that's not the case!

So, just telling you that you aren't alone and if anybody gives you crap b/c "you should be happy you get to do it naturally!"... they can shove it!

  • Totally agree with you on "GD, everything is a mystery".

DS was born early and with this one, it looks like we are going to go past my due date.

My OB has never confirmed anything just tells me we'll see and take it a week at a time. She also told me that sonograms can be off depending on who's doing the measurements by up to 2#...so they don't go by that alone and they do NST and BPP to check on the vitality of the baby, if there is a problem them they intervene, if not then they let you keep going.

  • Good luck! Hopefully someone will give you a straight answer soon. My OB said she wouldn't let me go past my due date and I was induced the day before. As far as the ultrasounds. Yes they can be + or - or almost perfect. I think if you have the same tech all the time it will most likely be accurate. My LO measured 8lbs 10oz Thursday 8/13, Friday 8/14 she was born at 8lbs 5oz. Then the nurse laughed and said she very well could have been 5 more oz (she took her first bowel movement on me as soon as she was born!). Even with all the uncertainty try to not get stressed out, in a little while you will be holding your LO and almost forget about all the stuff that led up to it.
