High-Risk Pregnancy

Prenatal massage and High Blood Pressure - ::Soontobe::

I believe it was soontobemrstabor that was also wondering about getting a prenatal massage while dealing with high BP.... My doc said today that I could get one (next Saturday for my birthday)... First of all I am sooo excited!  But he said it should not effect your BP negatively. But he did tell me just going out and about to get one would have more of a negative effect if my BP was running high... so I am making the appointment and if my numbers are high that morning. I will have to cancel. Obviously all dr. have differing opinions so you may want to check with yours but I am going with what mine said!!!!

  • Thanks for remembering!

I think I am going to go ahead and schedule a couples massage for our anniversary next week! I'll still ask my Dr. but thanks for the hope.

  • You might explain the situation and ask if the massage therapist could come to your house - or if he/she knows someone who could.

We are planning to have in-home massages for me as often as we can afford them for the next go 'round.  I was such a mess at the end in every way!

  • I have actually called around for someone to come to me and I cannot find anyone with an easy to transport table for pregnant ladies... I would have to lie on my side and I really want to lie on my belly - since I miss that so much. The spa I am going to is less than a mile from my house so I feel good about making the trip to see her - I am super excited!!! I actually bought DH a gift cert to this spa for fathers day and he loved it - so I am gonna see that same lady!!!!!  12 days away!!!!

  • Ah - yeah, there isn't anywhere in town where I could get a massage on my belly, so it is side no matter what.  Might as well have it at home :-)

That' great that the spa is near!  I just went everywhere with the seat fully reclined and I sort of twisted onto my side - we went to my doc appts and the hospital (in labor!) - 1.5 hours away - that way.

I've so been lurking on this board remembering all the little things (both good and horrible) that I need to be planning for when I get pregnant again.  Now if I'd just resume ovulating....

  • Do you have a snoogle?  If I roll mine in a donut, DH can rub my back while I lay on my belly.  That may be a solution so that you dont have to leave the house and can lay on your belly!   Also, just drink a ton of water because you get so dehydrated during the massage and that can bring your BP up.

Enjoy the massage!  I need to plan one soon!
