Pregnant after a Loss

Dumb question im sure...

So im not part of the "success after a loss" yet (big yet... because I have to keep telling myself I will be here soon) but for those who can ease my mind a bit that would help..I just have a couple questions...maybe you can answer some maybe not..

1.) Do your levels have to be back to 0 before you can ovulate? (I have heard some women get pregnant 2 weeks after they had a miscarriage.)

2.) Once you did get pregnant after a loss...how nervous where you? Did you rush to the bathroom everytime you felt something? Did it ever get easier?

3.) Do you really believe that after having a loss your chances are no more the next time?

4.) Just curious how many actually did get pregnant pretty quickly after a miscarriage...

Thanks...I hope im not bugging anyone just trying to think more of the positives of getting pregnant again instead of what im going through right now...just for a few min at least.

Re: Dumb question im sure...

  • 1) I have no idea where the HcG levels have to be before you ovulate. And yes women can get pregnant 2 weeks after a miscarriage. I ovulated a little later than normally right after my miscarriage/ D&C ( I think I still have that chart under my BFP chart if you want to look)

2)Very nervous but even more excited. Yes, I check the bathroom every time I feel something. I am hoping that once I make it past where I lost my baby it will start to get easier. ( Here is a post that Brosis posted earlier about the bathroom checking issue)

    3) My OB told me that my chances of another loss aren't raised that much after having the loss. But I still have the fear that there won't be a heart beat or that the baby will be falling behind at my next u/s.  But I know I am pregnant now and that I have to believe that I will stay that way for the foreseeable future.

4 ) I got pregnant the first month we tried after our loss. I had a D&C, waited for AF and then tried.  (again I think all my time in charted if you click on my BFP link in my siggy)

  • (Speaking on behalf of SAL) You are totally not bugging anyone here. Those are great questions. I'm so sorry for your loss.

    1) I think anything less than 5 is considered negative, or not pregnant. I could be wrong though. And I'm pretty sure your body has to think you're not pregnant in order to ovulate again.

    2) I am trying really hard not to be nervous. I know there's nothing I can do about it right now. Whatever path I am on, I'm on.

    3) I do believe that my past does not dictate my future.

    4) I did not get pregnant quickly after my m/c. First, it took months for me to actually miscarry naturally, and then it took me 10 cycles to get KU.

Hopefully you are able to move on quickly. Good luck!

  • 1. I do not think so. I think you can O if hcg <100. I KNOW you can get AF (with first m/c I got AF twice before hcg reached zero).

    2. VERY! Probably the first 10 weeks with this pg I went to the bathroom to check if I felt a little moisture down there. I have since relaxed (some).

     3. Depends on what caused your first loss....

    4. After last m/c it took me awhile...

Good luck! I hope to see you here soon!

  • I got pg a few weeks after my m/c before my 1st af. Not sure when I ovulated, I was not tracking or trying to get pg (I was planning on waiting until af). I was a nervous wreck the first tri, always doing tp checks and scared to be happy. I believe that your risk of mc again after your 1st is the same. Its only after multiple losses that your risk increases, from what I know.

    1. No, your levels don't have to be at 0 to ovulate - mine weren't (I had betas & was charting after I m/c). They do have to come down to baseline for you to get your period, though.

    2. Yes, I was nervous. I had a "BFP high" that lasted a week or two and then the fear set in. I felt better after seeing baby on u/s at 8 weeks, and then the fear came back. Then I saw him at 10 wks, and then the fear again... lol you get the picture. That's kind of how it goes with SAL for a lot of people I think. It's easier as it goes along but you still feel nervous at times.

    3. This is a tough question bc it really depends on "why" you miscarried, and usually you can't know that until you've had RPL & testing. If you've had one m/c you can know that it was most likely a random bad luck thing with the chromosomes, but I'm sorry to say you can't really be more sure than that until you get confirmation of a viable pregnancy - which is hopefully early on if you have an understanding doctor.

    4. We waited one cycle and then got pg again on the third cycle trying.

  • I was right where you were back in March.  I will try to answer your questions the best I can.

    1) I don't really know.  I never really checked my levels and whatnot.  Sorry I can't answer this one.

    2) I was VERY nervous!  The first tri seemed to take forever!!!  I'm just being honest.  I did rush to the bathroom all the time and always looked at the TP after I wiped bracing myself for blood.  Now that I am in my 2nd tri and I am feeling baby movement, the nerves have subsided a bit but I still have the habit of looking at my TP.  It definitely DOES get easier though.

    3) I do believe that.  I also believe that m/c odds look very bad but, when you think about how many people have babies everyday, it helps with the overall odds, in my opinion.  You just have to do your best and hope for the best!

    4) I had my m/c in December (Dec 27) and was pregnant in April.  I didn't feel like that was so bad!

Good luck to you!!  It will happen and, even though there will be worry involved, there will be joy as well.  Just come back over to SAL or the other boards when you become pregnant and we will try to get you through that b!tch of 1st tri!!

  • Don't know how much help I'll be since I had a late loss. But I'll do it anyway.

1.) Do your levels have to be back to 0 before you can ovulate? (I have heard some women get pregnant 2 weeks after they had a miscarriage.) I don't know

2.) Once you did get pregnant after a loss...how nervous where you? Did you rush to the bathroom everytime you felt something? Did it ever get easier?  I was a little nervous in the first tri. I did rush to the bathroom every time I felt something. But it's not getting easier either, because my loss was at 21 weeks.

3.) Do you really believe that after having a loss your chances are no more the next time? N/A for me. My baby died from a twisted umbilical cord. Dr. said there is a 1 in 5,000 chance of that happening. But..it happened once so....?

4.) Just curious how many actually did get pregnant pretty quickly after a miscarriage... I got pregnant 7 weeks after giving birth.

2.) Once you did get pregnant after a loss...how nervous where you? Did you rush to the bathroom everytime you felt something? Did it ever get easier? I just got a bfp and so yes, still nervous!

3.) Do you really believe that after having a loss your chances are no more the next time? For me, yes, because I had an ectopic and a tube was removed...but that's because I had an ectopic.

4.) Just curious how many actually did get pregnant pretty quickly after a miscarriage...I got my first bfp a year after my ectopic
