DD bit me!

Thursday night DD came down with the stomach bug, by Saturday she was fine, but guess who got it then?  Me!  So, Sunday DH was supposed to be watching her since I was sick.  Well, he was MIA and I was sitting in the recliner.  DD wanted my attention...she wanted me to get in the floor to color.  I was slow and non-commital since I didn't feel good at all.  Well, then she leaned over and bit me on the leg.  She bit me so hard that it broke the skin and brought blood through my pajama pants!  I screamed!

What discipline should I have done at this point?  I know she did it to get my attention, but that is not okay.  The last time she bit me this hard we were at the beach and I was making her come inside and she didn't want to.  She left a huge bruise on my arm that shows up lovely in all our pictures!

What I did was get up, pick her up and put her in timeout.  I made her sit there for 2 mins, but she kept trying to get up and I kept putting her back telling her that she bit mama and we don't bite.  After two mins I showed her the place on my leg, told her that she hurt mama and not to bite people.  I really don't think she got it though.  Any suggestions are appreciated!

  • OMG I was just thinking about you... unfortunately I don't know... Aiden bites a lot, never breaks skin though... I'm hoping it's teething and when he gets his teeth it will stop... Good luck!!!

  • Carson bites when  he gets overexcited, not so much pissed.  i use timeouts and if he gets up (he typically doesn't), i put him right back and say firmly "you sit there" and add another minute and he sits.  then i go back after 2 minutes, explain why i put him there and then he gives hugs and kisses and says he is sorry.
  • He sometimes does it when he is being playful and I redirect him.  If he does it again, he goes to timeout and it works like a charm.
