9 month babies - what kind of solids?

Liam is now 9 months and for the most part still eating stage 2 jars of baby food.  I've introduced some stage 3 jars but he likes the smooth textures.  He also loves YoBaby yogurt.  We offer him small bites of whatever we are eating (rice pilaf, bread, pasta, mashed potatoes) but he's not eating any table food consistently.  He does snack on a few cheerios.  What are other 9 monthers eating?

Re: 9 month babies - what kind of solids?

  • Hey!!  He's getting so big!  :-)  As for your question, I don't remember exactly what he was eating, but I'm sure he was still eating Stage 2 at that point.  I think about 11 months he started eating Stage 3 (not for a lack of trying before then he just wouldn't eat it).  Then after he would take the Stage 3's we tried the graduate cups of mac-n-cheese & chicken and chicken and stars.  It just took him a while to start enjoying the texture of the Stage 3's.  He would eat those puffs like it was his job, but wouldn't stand for a little chunky baby food.  :-)

So my recommendation, just keep offering them to him every now and then and don't worry...he'll be chowing down on everything in sight in no time!

  • DS was eating stage three foods but was mostly on table foods at this point, so I may not be much help.  If you think he is ready for table foods continue offereing but have a secondary option available in case he isn't interested in thetable foods.

  • I'm glad you asked this! I'll be watching for answers as well! Bennett is almost 8 months and still has no teeth. I need ideas!

  • I still give DD more stage 2 jars than 3 but we do supplement with table food as well (like cheerios and blueberries in the morning, small pieces of cheese and diced fruit at lunch, mashed up pasta w/meatballs or soup at dinner, etc.)  I sometimes make her scrambled eggs of just the yolks and french toast with just the yolks and she seems to like those too.  I'm still nervous to give her a lot of bread - they seem like they would get gummy and stuck!

It's funny - she was doing really well with stage 3 pea soup with diced carrots and lately she's been spitting out the carrots!  Almost like she doesn't like the texture too much anymore but she will do carrots on their own diced up.  She also loves the yobaby yogurt.

Oh, she has 3 bottom teeth but I know they probably use their gums more anyways.

  • DD is just turning 9 months and she's really still on Stage 2 jar food.  She's also eating cheerios and puffs and small bits of fruit.  I gave her some turkey burger yesterday but she choked a little, even though it was so small.  I guess she's not used to it.  She also loves gnawing on hard bread.  I mean, you can't get it away from her when it gets too soft.  She LOVES it.  I'm slowing giving her table food but really, not so much.  I guess I should start looking into Stage 3 foods.

    He also loves YoBaby yogurt.

Can you give yogurt at this age?  My pedi said no until she was 1 year.

  • We were told we could introduce dairy products at 9 months, but not actual milk until 12 months.
  • Yeah, we were told to do yogurt at 9 months but no cows milk until 1yr.
