Hello! I am 30 weeks with GD. Just got diagnosed 2 weeks ago. I am just on diet restrictions right now, but am having major trouble controlling my numbers so I suspect meds will be coming my way at Thursdays appointment. My worst numbers are my fasting numbers.
I LOVE to cook and have had no problems finding recipes so if anyone needs help, let me know!!
Hi there! I really like the idea of a GD check-in. I am almost 28 GD and was diagnosed with it 2 weeks ago. In the 5 or so days, I have noticed my numbers flucuating much more and staying higher..
Fasting numbers have all been around 95-100, and breakfast numbers seem to be my hardest hit area (had 162 for this mornings reading, ate 5 servings of carbs, but no protein). I go back to the dr on Friday.
My fasting # was 104 this Am. I am wondering if the fact that i slept untill 10:15 has anything to do with it? Does going longer with out eating raise your Numbers? I have a hard time going to sleep because i am on bed rest to I do not expend any energy during the day. Even when i get up when my DH goes to work I dont fall asleep till 1 Last night i was looking at the clock at 3:10
What tricks do you have for a lower number when you check. Does drinking water lower your number or raise it?
Kate
My fasting numbers are ALWAYS high when I test around 9 or 10 am. Saturday I tested at 9:30 and it was 127! I usually get my best fasting numbers around 7 am. I also try to eat a small snack with a glass of milk before I go to bed. I used to eat a banana and a glass of OJ to keep my leg cramps at bay but I had to nix that quick.
I haven't found that drinking water really lowers my sugars, although I have read it several times. I drank almost 60 oz (3 water bottles) this am before I tested my breakfast and it was 40 pts higher than what it should be, but I also tried a new type of toast out with my cereal so I didnt know what kind of results I would end up with.
I was wondering what others are eating for lunch? I have had a simple turkey sandwich the last two days... I am getting sick of it, I am afriad to try other things I dont want to be on Meds and I am hoping to control my numbers. This may be a silly question but,,,,, if my #s are all where they are supposed to be then do I have GD if the #s fall in the Normal range. If they stay at a good level will this keep the baby from getting to big. The bigger the baby is the more of a chance i have to bleed due to my previa!! How are all of you handling the GD Diet and do you ever cheat? what do you eat chen you cheat? Hop you dont mind all the questions.

We use to have one and then it went away I was wondering what ever happen to it.
This board is great and very supportive, but a chek in is alway nice to look forward too.
I was diagnosed at 8 weeks (I have a family history of diabeties on both sides and I had it with my previous pregnancy). I have been on insulin since 12 weeks and been though a lot of tests, so feel free to ask me anything as this is my secound go with it. I was diet controlled with my first and this time needed a little help from insulin.
For me if my #'s are high the nurse advised that I drink 20 ozs of water and take a 10 min walk, My number drops 10-20 from before.
I was diagnosed at 30 weeks and have been controlling my GD with diet. The most important piece of advice I can give anyone newly diagnosed is that being GD is not your fault! There is nothing you did to cause it and there is nothing you could have done to prevent it.
There are a couple of the elders on here that are extremely helpful and one of them has a link in her siggy to an excellent blog. www.kraftfoods.com has a diabetic section as well with some good recipe ideas.
Great idea!
Hi everyone - I'm Kristen, I am 32 weeks and was diagnosed at 29 weeks. I had a class at the diabetes center around july 29th, and have been testing my glucose and adjusting my diet since then.
So far, doc thinks it will be controlled by diet, which is awesome - and I've had great numbers except for the day i tried to eat pancakes (carbs and the morning just don't really work for me) and the other night when I had a spike from pasta and got so scared I went to the hospital. All is well, so I've just decided to continue to eat what I know works, and experiments AFTER she's born
I too, have lots of low carb cookbooks and stuff like that if anyone needs recommendations...I don't really cook much but DH is a chef and I'm in charge of picking out recipes LOL.
Thanks everyone!!!!!
I will do my best to post the check in by 10 am each day .... Chicken salad seemed to work well for me today ! What is everyone's FAVORITE meal on this diet?
I never cheat. Ok once I had 2 mini blueberry muffins from Souplantation instead on one trying to find out if it would make my numbers high.... and it did... darn it, but really I would call it more investigation then cheating.
