NBR: Empire for carpet?

Anyone use Empire for carpeting? We have an appointment today and was just curious what your experience was.

  • They will be installing the carpet in our basement. I was very happy with their sales person and their prices are better than Lowe's and Home Depot (at least for our project).

  • I've never used them, but my friend did, and everything was going fine (the carpet was wonderful and looked great) and then a couple months ago, they upped her interest rate for it for NO reason.  She had never missed or been late on a payment, but all of a sudden, it went from 3% interest to 9% interest.  They can just DO that without your permission.  So make sure to ask about that if you're doing financing!!
  • My parents did not have a very good experience with them. They installed the cheaper padding then what my parents paid for, and when my Dad discovered this, it took several months for him to get it resolved.  It finally took a letter from a family friend who is an attorney to get this resolved.

I also have another friend who had some interesting time with Empire too.  But this was also in the Chicago area too.  So maybe near you it is different.

  • We got a quote from them but for our project Home Depot was cheaper. We had no problems with Home Depot and it was installed 4 weeks ahead of when they had originally quoted us.
